In what may be the best or most ‘happy accident’ case of coincidence (Alanis Morisette may even call it ironic), I had to use a few days of holiday allowance before the end of June. So I picked this week, thinking I’d book a last minute ferry and go to Wales or maybe even go to Belgium and fill the car with hard to find beer for the return journey. But it turns out I didn’t need to (or didn’t want to) do any of that when the heatwave rolled in and much of western Europe was between high 30’s and low 40’s celcius. I’ll stay in the relatively cooler tropics of Cork and just spend the week enjoying not having to be at work or sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours a day.

Given my absolute love of being in the baking heat, I ended up spending most of my week in various forests or close to the sea to get some shade and cool breeze. In Ireland it’s not so much the high temperatures that’ll make you regret your existence, but the punishing humidity both day and night.

My same forest, different day usual location is Curraghbinny (probably called Currabinny in previous posts) Woods near Ringaskiddy but I also made it to a few more like Castlefreke (above) and Garrettstown Woods (below), which up to now I’d been calling Ballinspittle Woods.
